Superior Fall Trail Race Volunteer Communication 1 2023

Date: Thursday July 13, 2023
Subject: Superior Fall Trail Race Volunteer Communication 1 2023

Greetings past and present Superior Fall Trail Race volunteers,

We are just over eight weeks out from this year’s Superior Fall Trail Race. Founded in 1991, the Superior 100 is the 10th oldest 100 mile trail race in the country – this will be the 33rd annual running! We are super excited to have 941 registered runners from 3 countries, 35 states and 196 Minnesota cities joining us this year. As always, it takes about 350 volunteers to make Superior happen! This year’s race date(s) are Friday September 8 and Saturday September 9, 2023 – the race is always held the weekend after Labor Day Weekend.

You are receiving this email for one of the following reasons:

1.) You have already signed up to volunteer this year (thank you!) A list of those who have already signed up can be found HERE https://www.superiorfalltrailrace.com/volunteer-assignments/

or

2.) You have volunteered at the Superior Fall Trail Race in the past and we would love to have you back. If you can’t make it back to volunteer this year we hope it is because you are planning on running, crewing, spectating or just coming up to hang out to have a good time.

If you are interested in volunteering it helps me to stay organized if EVERYONE (even those that routinely forget to sign up) can go to the website and sign up to volunteer (it only takes a few minutes) HERE https://www.superiorfalltrailrace.com/volunteer-signup/ – Please provide any useful information that will help me in assigning you to your volunteer position; i.e. the days and times that you are available, what position you have worked in the past, names of anyone you would like to be assigned with, other preferences, etc.

If you are interested in helping with equipment cleanup and storage on Monday September 11 at our home in Hastings, please indicate that as well.

Skill positions: If you are a good photographer, are HAM Radio Licensed, a medical professional, or have other specialized skills that would lend themselves well to the race and are willing to put those skills to work, please say as much in the notes section of your volunteer registration.

I will be in touch with aid station captains separately and most do quite a bit of their own recruiting, so some of you may also be directly ‘recruited’ by them as well.

We will continue gathering volunteer information another five weeks or so, then when we have just about everyone committed we will start making volunteer assignments – look for further communication at that time.

A note about lodging. Lodging and camping on the North Shore continues to be in very high demand. We have some, but limited, communal type lodging for volunteers in need. If you have access to somewhere to stay, with a friend / group that is running (lots of empty rooms on Friday, Friday night and Saturday), a favorite camping spot etc. those are great options to explore.

As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at Superior!

Thank You,

John Storkamp
